Customer Question about her hedgehog staying in a ball and loud fast breathing

Q: The last couple of weeks or so, he pretty much stays in a ball when she gets him out of the cage or the bag, and he is also making a loud and fast breathing noise, sorta like panting noise. He is still eating fine, just curious if you have any ideas or suggestions

A: The breathing and the panting are normal hedgehog noises. When they stay in a ball like that it could be the temperature/weather, if it is too cool in the house. Make sure they have a heating pad (the ones that do not turn off but stay on all the time) keep it on low or medium under the cage with a blanket on top. Also what you could do as a last resort is put them in a little sink of warm water, this will help them calm down and will make him easier to handle.

Balled up hedgehogs also can be scared and need to be face down when you are trying to unroll them, they are too timid if they are face up to get comfortable.
