After they mate, a sugar glider is only pregnant for about 16 days. Wow, how lucky! The babies, who are also called joeys are smaller than a pea when they crawl into their mothers pouch. Gliders normally have two babies at one time, although litters up to 4 have been born and raised at JEAR. The joeys remain in the pouch for about 70 days where they grow and drink milk. When they emerge from the pouch, they are covered with fine fur and their eyes are closed. After 10 days their eyes open and they spend the next couple of months riding their moms back and learning how to be a Sugar Glider.
